Congratulations, Diana!

You're going to love building that K2. I'm hoping to finish mine very soon and get it aligned. You should check out the Elecraft email reflector (see their website for the link/subscribe page) for help during your build. It's fairly straightforward, but the experience of the folks on the listserv is invaluable.

I just saw a video you did on yagi antennas and wound up here at your blog. Its so great to see someone from a seemingly unrelated profession get into and really enjoy electronics and ham radio.
Best wishes with the PR gig!

Congrats on the opportunity. I just saw your beam antenna video last week and was looking forward to including it in the Tech classes that I teach here in NYC. Feel free to pop in on our weekly nets on 441.100 Mondays at 8:30PM. I too (like others above) am in the IT industry and look towards shaking things up a bit to advance amateur radio and helping people rise up a notch or two (or three or four...).

Diana,
Keep up the good work. I like reading about you and how diverse you are in your interests. You surprise me and others in how wide ranging and in dept you are in you efforts. Never stop. I have learned more from my many failures than my successes.

P.S. I use your Ham videos to educate other hams at our club. Very well done.

Ok, While I do consider myself to be a computer nerd, I did conciously distance myself from ham radio geeks some time in the past. Long story, but there's no tape on my glasses. Maybe you can do somthing to improve their image a bit, and get rid of that glass-tape... ;-)

Congratulations. I hope you can make a big impact on the ARRL. I just passed my Tech and General in December and my Extra in January. After being around unix, open source, usenet, and the internet since the early 80's, it feels to me like the ARRL is really in need of some updating.

The ARRL has been working on a new web site for over two years. It's long overdue. (Try with the current site to find out what the process is for getting a license and what all of the license classes are. It's easier to find it on other sites.) I hope the new web site is a big improvement, but a project that takes 2+ years and isn't out there getting feedback from the masses has a good chance of going off into the weeds.

I realize the ARRL needs money to survive, but their goals of promoting amateur radio, yet charging for almost every piece of information they organize seem a little mutually exclusive in this day and age.

Imagine how much the ARRL could help things by embracing newer technologies like wikis.

Good luck to you.

I just surprised myself, and subscribed to a fashion blog. I'm glad to hear that the ARRL is reaching out to you in this way, it is an aging predominately white male organization and I can see where you will hopefully be able to contribute quite a lot to helping advance the cause of Ham Radio.

Exciting news about the K2. I have a relatively advanced kit waiting to be built too, and I'm eager to get started, but a little hesitant as I will be working with untried techniques for me. I will be building KD1JV's ATS-3B.
